Creator Standards

Creator Guidelines

Everything you need to know about creating, publishing, and selling on FDM Foundry. These guidelines exist to keep quality high and our community trustworthy.

Model Quality Standards

Every model on FDM Foundry must be designed with FDM printing in mind. Here's what we look for.

FDM-Optimized Design

  • Models should print cleanly on standard FDM printers
  • Minimize overhangs past 45° or include built-in supports
  • Avoid thin walls below 1.2mm
  • Design for 0.4mm nozzle compatibility by default

File Requirements

  • Provide watertight, manifold STL or 3MF files
  • Include modular or sliced versions when applicable
  • Ensure correct scale (28mm or 32mm heroic standard)
  • Name files clearly (e.g., "Orc_Warrior_Unsupported.stl")

Listing Quality

  • Include high-quality renders or photos of printed models
  • Write clear, honest descriptions of what buyers receive
  • Specify recommended print settings (layer height, infill, etc.)
  • Tag models accurately for discoverability

Things to Avoid

  • Models designed only for resin without FDM adaptation
  • Low-poly or placeholder models sold as final products
  • Misleading renders that don't represent actual print results
  • Duplicate listings of the same model under different names

Content Policy

FDM Foundry is a curated marketplace. We review every submission to ensure it meets our standards.

Intellectual Property

All models must be your original work, or you must have the legal right to sell them. Fan art and derivative works should comply with applicable IP laws and fair use principles. If a rights holder contacts us, we will work with you to resolve any issues promptly.

Appropriate Content

FDM Foundry is a family-friendly marketplace. Models should be suitable for tabletop gaming communities. Fantasy violence (weapons, battle poses) is fine — gratuitous or explicit content is not. When in doubt, reach out before uploading.

Pricing Fairness

You set your own prices. We don't dictate what a model should cost. However, pricing should be reasonable and reflect the value delivered. Deliberately misleading pricing tactics (e.g., inflated 'original' prices for fake discounts) are not permitted.

Review Process

New submissions are reviewed within 48 hours on average. If a model doesn't meet our guidelines, we'll provide clear feedback on what needs to change. Rejections are not permanent — you can always resubmit after addressing feedback.

Community Standards

Being part of FDM Foundry means being part of a community that respects each other.

Be Respectful

Treat buyers and fellow creators with professionalism. Respond to questions and feedback constructively.

Be Transparent

Clearly communicate what buyers will receive. If a model requires specific printer capabilities, say so upfront.

Be Fair

Honor your subscription commitments. If you promise monthly releases to subscribers, deliver them consistently.

Be Accountable

If a buyer reports a file issue, address it. Standing behind your work builds trust and repeat customers.

Guideline Violations

We believe in education over punishment, but repeated or severe violations have consequences.

First Issue

Friendly notification with clear guidance on what to fix. No penalties — we're here to help you succeed.

Repeated Issues

Temporary listing review hold while we work together to resolve the issue. Your existing sales remain unaffected.

Severe Violations

IP theft, fraud, or deliberate policy abuse may result in immediate account suspension. These cases are rare and handled individually.
